Guy Fawkes Station Carbon Project
ERF175267
Project Information:
Guy Fawkes Station Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located at Guy Fawkes Station, immediately adjacent to the village of Ebor and approximately 80km east of Armidale in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Registered on March 10, 2023, the project covers a 958-hectare area within the property, which is situated along the scenic Waterfall Way.
The region is characterized by a cool temperate climate with high rainfall, averaging over 1,000mm annually, which supports lush pasture growth. The local environment features fertile, basalt-derived soils (often classified as Chocolate Soils or Krasnozems) resulting from the ancient Ebor Volcano, making it highly suitable for intensive grazing. The land use in the surrounding area is predominantly agricultural, specifically focused on high-performance cattle and sheep breeding.
Operating under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), the project aims to increase soil organic carbon stocks through improved land management. Specific activities undertaken by the proponent, Jafam Trading Pty Ltd, include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, pasture rejuvenation through seeding, and the alteration of grazing intensity or duration. This methodology requires a hybrid approach of physical soil sampling and computer modelling to quantify the carbon sequestered over the project's 25-year crediting period.
