Eversfield Forest Regeneration Project
ERF172867
Project Information:
The Eversfield Forest Regeneration Project is a large-scale Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located approximately 50km southeast of Morven and 100km west of Roma in the Maranoa region of Queensland. Registered in March 2022, the project covers a substantial area of 17,974 hectares. The project operates on "Eversfield," a pastoral station situated within the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area historically significant for sheep and cattle grazing but increasingly utilized for carbon farming initiatives.
Human-Induced Regeneration projects involve regenerating native forests on land where vegetation has been suppressed for at least 10 years, typically by grazing or mechanical clearing. By ceasing these suppression activities, such as removing livestock or stopping mechanical clearing, the project allows native vegetation to regenerate naturally from in-situ seed sources like rootstock and lignotubers. This method does not involve planting new trees but rather managing the land to allow the existing seed bank to recover, sequestering carbon in the growing biomass.
The Maranoa region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with highly variable rainfall, averaging between 300mm and 500mm annually. The landscape is dominated by flat to undulating plains featuring red earths and sandy loam soils, often supporting Mulga (Acacia aneura) and Poplar Box woodlands. Interestingly, the property also hosts the Eversfield Station Nature Refuge, indicating it holds significant conservation value and biodiversity beyond its carbon sequestration potential. The project is managed by Urana Carbon Farming Pty Ltd with the assistance of Climate Friendly Pty Ltd.
