Enderby Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Enderby Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Mackay Whitsunday region of Queensland, approximately 50km northwest of Mackay. The project area spans 64.46 hectares and is situated near the rural localities of Calen and Mount Ossa, a district historically known for its sugar cane production and cattle grazing. Registered on March 30, 2022, the project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer specializing in soil carbon projects across Australia.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology, which awards carbon credits (ACCUs) for measurable increases in soil organic carbon (SOC). The specific activities undertaken on this property include re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures, likely through seeding improved varieties, and altering grazing intensity or duration. These practices are designed to boost biomass production and root density, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile.

Environmentally, the site lies in a high rainfall zone, with the nearby Calen weather station recording average annual rainfall exceeding 1,400mm. This tropical climate provides significant potential for rapid pasture growth and soil carbon accumulation, although it also presents management challenges related to nutrient leaching and acidity. The soils in this hinterland region are typically varying grades of clay loams and dermosols, which are well-suited to intensive grazing when managed for ground cover and soil health.
