Enderby Carbon Project 1

Project Information:

Enderby Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the locality of Crediton, approximately 60km northwest of Mackay in Queensland. Registered in March 2022, the project covers an area of roughly 108 hectares within the lush Eungella hinterland region. This area is situated within the Clarke Range and is distinct from the coastal lowlands, characterized by its higher altitude and proximity to the Eungella National Park, a region renowned for its biodiversity and rainforests.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. For this specific project, the activities involve a combination of re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures, potentially through seeding or pasture cropping, and altering grazing mechanics. By managing stocking rates, duration, and intensity, the project aims to optimize vegetation cover and soil health, thereby sequestering carbon directly from the atmosphere into the soil profile.

Environmentally, the Crediton and Eungella region is classified as a high-rainfall zone, often receiving significantly more precipitation than the surrounding plains due to orographic lift over the ranges. The soils in this area are typically fertile, well-drained Ferrosols (red volcanic soils) or Dermosols, which are conducive to high biomass production and, consequently, have high potential for soil carbon sequestration. The land use in the immediate vicinity is predominantly cattle grazing, often integrated with conservation areas due to the sensitive nature of the nearby rainforest ecosystems.
