Valencia Woods Farm Reforestation Project (Revoked)

Valencia Woods Farm Reforestation Project (Revoked) is an environmental planting project located near the rural locality of Youngs Siding on the South Coast of Western Australia, situated approximately 25 kilometers west of Albany and 20 kilometers east of Denmark. It was registered in March 2022 and covers a project area of 20.44 hectares.

The project operated under the "Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings" methodology. This project type involves establishing permanent plantings of a mix of native tree and shrub species on land that has been clear of forest for at least five years, which is typically former agricultural grazing or cropping land. The standard requirement is to establish vegetation intended to reach forest cover status, defined as achieving a crown cover of at least 20% and a height of at least 2 meters to sequester carbon in the trees' biomass.

The Youngs Siding and Torbay region experiences a high-rainfall Mediterranean climate, receiving significant winter precipitation that supports lush vegetation. The local soils are typically sandy loams, gravelly duplex soils, or karri loams, which are highly suitable for supporting native mixed-species plantings. The general land use in this coastal hinterland region is a mix of agricultural pursuits, primarily cattle grazing and mixed farming, interspersed with forestry operations such as blue gum plantations.

The project proponents, Amanda Woods-McConney and Andrew McConney, are associated with the education and academic sectors in Western Australia, with Amanda notably holding a senior lecturer position in Science Education at Murdoch University. This suggests the carbon project was a private conservation effort on a farm or lifestyle property. After operating for two years, the project was voluntarily revoked on March 21, 2024, under Section 30 of the CFI Rule, indicating it may have been withdrawn due to administrative complexity, property sale, or a change in land management strategy.
