Davidson Carbon Project 6

Project Information:

Davidson Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the locality of Senior, approximately 60km north of the regional center of Bordertown in South Australia. Registered in February 2022, the project covers a land area of roughly 402 hectares within the Tatiara District Council region. This area is situated in the Upper South East of South Australia, a region widely recognized for dryland agriculture, specifically mixed farming operations involving sheep and cattle grazing alongside cereal cropping.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures through seeding, and altering grazing pressure (stocking rate, duration, or intensity) to promote vegetation cover and soil health. The environment in this region typically features sandy loam or calcareous "Mallee" soils and receives an average annual rainfall of approximately 400-450mm, conditions that often benefit significantly from improved soil organic matter to retain moisture.

An interesting aspect of this project is its place within a broader portfolio; the existence of other registered projects such as "Davidson Carbon Project 2" in the same region suggests a multi-stage or multi-property engagement by the landholder, the Davidson family, in partnership with the proponent, Agriprove Solutions. This approaches leverages Agriprove’s "soiltech" model, which combines soil sampling with remote sensing data to monitor carbon sequestration over the 25-year crediting period.
