Davidson Carbon Project 5

ERF168022

Project Information:

Davidson Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara District of the Upper South East of South Australia. Situated approximately 60km north-east of Keith and near the Victorian border, the project sits within a region known for its transition from the productive "Tatiara" cropping country to the sandy soils of the Mallee. Registered on February 12, 2022, the project covers 183.92 hectares of agricultural land.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models 2021 methodology. This method involves measuring baseline soil carbon levels and implementing specific management activities to sequester additional carbon over time. For this specific project, the registered activities include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, re-establishing pastures through seeding, and altering grazing intensity (stocking rates) to improve soil health and vegetation cover. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, is a prominent developer in this sector, known for managing a large portfolio of soil carbon projects across Australia.

Environmentally, the northern Tatiara region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450–500mm. The landscape typically features sandy loams and duplex soils (sand over clay), which can be prone to issues such as acidity, water repellence, and low natural fertility. By improving pasture density and soil organic matter through the described activities, the project aims to not only generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) but also enhance the water-holding capacity and resilience of these sandy soil profiles.
