Rodgers Carbon Project

Project Information:
Rodgers Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located near Stanhope, roughly 40km west of Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley region of northern Victoria. It was registered in December 2020 and covers 118.24 hectares.
The project operates under the Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems 2018 methodology. Soil carbon projects involve changing agricultural management practices to increase the amount of organic carbon stored in the soil, which is then measured through physical soil sampling and verified over time to earn credits.
The Goulburn Valley region is widely known for its agricultural operations, particularly dairy farming, livestock grazing, and irrigated cropping. The area generally experiences a temperate climate with moderate to semi-arid rainfall (averaging 400-500mm annually), often necessitating irrigation for intensive agriculture. Soils in this area typically consist of red-brown earths, clay loams, and heavier alluvial clays.
This project aims to increase carbon in the soil by altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing. By shifting to practices like rotational or time-controlled grazing, the property can prevent overgrazing, allowing for improved pasture cover and deeper root systems, which benefits both overall soil health and carbon sequestration. Notably, the project is managed by major carbon developer Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd and is part of a large, active federal Carbon Abatement Contract (CAC808228) that promises to deliver over 2.18 million ACCUs across a broad portfolio of Agriprove agricultural sites.
