Frazer Carbon Project

Project Information:

The Frazer Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration initiative located approximately 6km inland from Somerset and the city of Burnie on the North West Coast of Tasmania. Registered in October 2020, the project covers 41.68 hectares of agricultural land in a region renowned for its productivity.

The project operates under the 2018 Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration methodology, which credits landholders for measured increases in soil organic carbon stocks. The specific activities for this project involve re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures through seeding, a practice designed to boost root biomass and soil health. This approach aligns with the proponent Agriprove’s common model of using multi-species pasture cropping to accelerate carbon drawdown.

Geographically, the project is situated in the Inglis and Cam river catchment area. The region is characterized by high reliable rainfall and fertile Red Ferrosol (basalt) soils, which are widely considered some of the best agricultural soils in Australia. Land use in the immediate vicinity is dominated by intensive grazing (dairy and beef) and cropping (potatoes, poppies, and pyrethrum).
