Project Information:

Western Australia Rangelands Conservation Initiative Site 10. (Revoked) was a large-scale Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located in the West Kimberley region of Western Australia. Situated approximately 90 kilometers northeast of Broome and 100 kilometers west of Derby, the project spanned a massive area of 169,162 hectares within the Shire of Broome. Registered in November 2020, the project operated on pastoral land historically utilized for extensive cattle grazing.

The project employed the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which involves changes in land management to facilitate the regrowth of native forest on land where vegetation has been suppressed for at least 10 years. Key activities included the strategic management of livestock grazing pressure, controlling both the timing and extent of grazing, and the humane control of feral animals. These measures were designed to allow the natural seed bank (in-situ sources like rootstock and lignotubers) to regenerate into permanent native forest cover.

Environmentally, the region is characterized by a semi-arid monsoonal climate, featuring a distinct hot, wet season and a warm, dry season. The landscape is dominated by Pindan country, typified by red sandy soils and loams that support Pindan woodland vegetation, including Acacia shrublands and scattered Eucalypts. These soils are ancient and highly weathered, often requiring careful management to prevent erosion when vegetation cover is removed.

Notably, the project was revoked on June 18, 2025, under Section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule 2015. This section pertains to the voluntary revocation of a project declaration upon application by the proponent. This indicates that the proponent, Terra Carbon Pty Limited, elected to withdraw the project from the ACCU scheme, rather than it being cancelled by the regulator for non-compliance. Terra Carbon is a well-known aggregator in the sector, and the "Site 10" designation suggests this project was part of a broader portfolio of conservation initiatives in the Western Australian rangelands.
