Landari PPPA 1

Project Information:

Landari PPPA 1 is a commercial plantation forestry project located in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales. The project encompasses approximately 742 hectares across multiple sites, with key areas situated near Rylstone (roughly 50km southeast of Mudgee) and the Oberon-Bathurst district. Registered in January 2020, the project is currently managed by Group Energy Pty Ltd, having transitioned from the original proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, in early 2023.

The project operates under the Plantation Forestry methodology, which incentivizes the establishment of new timber plantations on land that was previously used for agricultural purposes, such as grazing or cropping. By converting this land to forest, the project generates carbon credits through carbon stored in the growing trees as well as in the long-term wood products harvested from them. The 2022 method variation adopted by this project allows for the accounting of carbon in both the trees and the harvested wood products, aligning the carbon abatement with standard commercial forestry rotations.

The Central Tablelands region provides a diverse environmental backdrop for these activities. The southern sites near Oberon typically experience cool, high-rainfall climates with fertile soils derived from basalt and granite, making the area a historic hub for softwood (pine) forestry. Conversely, the northern sites near Rylstone generally see moderate rainfall and are characterized by sedimentary soils such as Chromosols and Tenosols. The region is traditionally known for fine wool production, cattle grazing, and extensive forestry operations, supporting the project's integration of commercial timber into the existing agricultural landscape.
