Hallmark Carbon Project

Project Information:

Hallmark Carbon Project is a Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration project located in the West Wimmera region of Victoria, approximately 45km west of the regional city of Horsham. Registered in May 2018, the project currently covers an area of 48.66 hectares. The West Wimmera area is highly productive agricultural land, known predominantly for broadacre cropping, forestry, and sheep and cattle grazing.

The region generally experiences a Mediterranean-style climate with moderate, reliable rainfall, which transitions to a more semi-arid climate further north toward the Little Desert. The local environment features a variety of fertile soils, commonly including heavy clay soils (such as Chromosols and Vertosols) and sandy loams, which support the area's strong agricultural output.

Operating under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021, the project is designed to build soil carbon stocks within an agricultural system. Soil organic carbon projects require proponents to undertake new or materially different land management activities, utilizing direct soil sampling and laboratory analysis alongside models to estimate and verify carbon sequestration over time. For the Hallmark Carbon Project, the primary activities involve altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of livestock grazing to improve soil health and vegetation cover, as well as rejuvenating the pasture through seeding and pasture cropping.

The project was originally registered under the 2014 soil carbon methodology before transitioning to the updated 2021 determination in October 2025. In September 2025, the project proponent was updated from Corporate Carbon Solutions Pty Ltd to Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, which operates as a sister company to Corporate Carbon. Agriprove is Australia's largest soil carbon developer, managing over 70 percent of all successfully registered ACCU soil carbon projects, and frequently partners with industry bodies like Meat & Livestock Australia to help producers transition to carbon-neutral operations. In November 2020, the Hallmark Carbon Project also underwent a variation to remove certain areas from the overall project footprint.
