Prosper Carbon Project

Project Information:

Prosper Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 15km west of Stawell, Victoria, near the town of Halls Gap. It was registered in December 2017 and covers a project area of 115.65 hectares.

Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models projects involve increasing the amount of carbon stored in agricultural soils by introducing new or materially different management activities. Project owners must reliably estimate the change in soil carbon over time using a mixture of physical soil sampling and empirical models.

The Wimmera region around Stawell is traditionally known for sheep grazing and broadacre cropping, including wheat, barley, and canola. The area experiences a moderate rainfall classification. Local soils are highly variable but are typically defined by texture contrast soils (such as Sodosols and Chromosols) with a sandy loam surface over heavy clay, as well as self-mulching cracking clays (Vertosols).

This project aims to increase carbon in the soil through specific agricultural activities. These include applying nutrients to the land, in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser, to address material deficiencies. It also involves re-establishing or rejuvenating the property's pasture by seeding or pasture cropping.

An interesting note is that the Prosper Carbon Project originally commenced under the older 2014 soil carbon methodology before officially transitioning to the 2021 Measurement and Models methodology in October 2025. Around the same time, the project participant name was varied in September 2025, changing from Corporate Carbon Solutions Pty Ltd to Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, reflecting the proponent's ongoing development and management of the site.
