Prestige Carbon Project

Project Information:

Prestige Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located near Kalangadoo, approximately 20km southwest of Penola in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. Registered in May 2018, the project currently covers 63.71 hectares. The project area is situated within the Wattle Range Council district, a region historically dominated by intensive grazing, forestry (radiata pine), and viticulture due to its favorable climate.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology incentivizes farmers to sequester carbon by adopting new land management practices. For the Prestige Carbon Project, specific activities include altering stocking rates and grazing intensity, likely implementing rotational or time-controlled grazing, and applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address soil nutrient deficiencies. The project transitioned from the 2014 soil carbon method to the modern 2021 determination in October 2025, allowing for a hybrid approach of physical soil sampling and modelling to calculate carbon abatement.

Environmentally, the Kalangadoo area sits within one of South Australia's highest rainfall zones, typically receiving between 700mm and 800mm annually, which supports reliable pasture growth essential for building soil carbon. The landscape is characterized by texture-contrast soils, often consisting of sandy loams over clay or the region's famous Terra Rossa soils (red clay loam over limestone), which are highly conducive to agricultural productivity when nutrient deficiencies are managed.

The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions PTY LTD, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector. Notably, the project has undergone administrative adjustments, including a reduction in the project area in September 2024 and a participant name variation in September 2025.
