Prestige Carbon Project

Project Information:

Prestige Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, approximately 20km south of the township of Lucindale. Registered in May 2018, the project operates on a relatively small scale, covering an area of 63.71 hectares.

The project is situated in a region predominantly used for grazing (sheep and cattle) and cropping, known for its reliable rainfall and productive agricultural land. The environmental conditions in this area typically feature a Mediterranean climate with wet, cool winters and dry summers. The soils are characteristic of the Limestone Coast, often consisting of sandy loams over clay or shallow soils over calcrete (calcarosols), which are well-suited to pasture improvement but can require careful management to maintain organic carbon levels.

Operating under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021, the project aims to build soil carbon stocks. This is achieved by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies and altering grazing practices, such as changing stocking rates, duration, or intensity, to promote better vegetation cover and soil health.

Notably, the project has undergone significant administrative updates. In late 2025, it transitioned from the older 2014 soil carbon methodology to the more modern 2021 "Measurement and Models" determination, allowing for hybrid modelling approaches to reduce sampling costs. Additionally, the project proponent was updated from Corporate Carbon Solutions to its specialist soil carbon arm, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd.
