Project Information:

SVHA National Energy Action Plan (Revoked) is an energy efficiency project located at various St Vincent's hospital facilities, including sites in Chermside roughly 10km north of the Brisbane CBD, and Toowoomba 125km west of Brisbane in Queensland. It was registered in June 2016 and covers an unknown area size, as the activities were implemented entirely within the footprint of existing commercial buildings.

Industrial Electricity and Fuel Efficiency projects involve reducing energy consumption by upgrading, replacing, or altering the control mechanisms of existing energy-consuming equipment. Standard requirements for this methodology involve establishing a historical baseline of energy consumption to accurately quantify and generate carbon credits for the electricity or fuel emissions avoided over a multi-year crediting period. This specific project's activities targeted critical hospital infrastructure, focusing on the optimization of building management control systems, lighting upgrades, and refrigeration and freezing equipment.

The South East Queensland region encompassing Brisbane and Toowoomba features a subtropical climate characterized by moderate to high rainfall. Soil types vary significantly across this transect, transitioning from coastal sandy loams and heavy clays around Brisbane to highly fertile red basalt soils in the elevated Toowoomba region. Because this project operated entirely within built healthcare facilities, the immediate land use is densely urbanized and commercial, though the broader inland region toward the Darling Downs is known for intensive cropping and livestock grazing.

As part of their broader sustainability goals, the proponent, St Vincent's Health Australia, launched their National Energy Action Plan during the 2015-16 financial year to reduce their total electricity use and carbon emissions by at least 35% across their network. This made them one of the first Catholic health and aged care providers to implement such a comprehensive energy efficiency strategy in Australia. Despite these organizational ambitions, this specific carbon project was voluntarily revoked under section 30 of the CFI Rule in April 2019.
