Wesfarmers Refrigeration and Ventilation Fan Project (Revoked)

Project Information:

Wesfarmers Refrigeration and Ventilation Fan Project (Revoked) was an industrial energy efficiency project designed to reduce electricity usage across Wesfarmers' extensive retail network in Australia. Registered in April 2016, the project operated as an aggregated initiative rather than being tied to a single geographic plot. Given Wesfarmers' portfolio, the project activities likely took place within Coles supermarkets, Bunnings warehouses, or Kmart stores located in major metropolitan and regional hubs nationwide.

The project operated under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Refrigeration and Ventilation Fans) Methodology Determination 2015. This methodology credits emissions reductions achieved by replacing standard fans in commercial refrigeration and ventilation systems with high-efficiency alternatives. Specifically, this project focused on upgrading fans within freezer cabinets and refrigerated display cabinets. By installing more efficient hardware, the project aimed to lower electricity consumption, thereby reducing the indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with grid electricity usage.

As this project was conducted entirely within built environments (retail stores and warehouses), traditional environmental analysis regarding soil types or rainfall is not applicable. The project's "location" is effectively the mechanical infrastructure of Wesfarmers' retail assets. Interestingly, the project was revoked on March 21, 2018, under section 30 of the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) Rule. A section 30 revocation is typically a voluntary action taken by the proponent, indicating that Wesfarmers chose to withdraw the project from the scheme, potentially due to changes in commercial strategy or the administrative complexity of the method.
