Wesfarmers LED Lighting Project II (Revoked)

Project Information:
Wesfarmers LED Lighting Project II (Revoked) is an aggregated energy efficiency project that was likely distributed across multiple commercial sites throughout Australia. Registered in April 2016 and revoked in March 2018, the project was designed to operate within the built environment of Wesfarmers' extensive retail portfolio, which includes major chains such as Bunnings, Kmart, and Target. Because this is a dispersed industrial project rather than a land-sector activity, it does not have a single geographic location, area size, or set of coordinates relative to a specific town.
The project operated under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Commercial and Public Lighting) Methodology Determination 2015. This methodology credits the reduction in electricity use, and the associated Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, achieved by replacing inefficient legacy lighting (such as metal halide or fluorescent lamps) with energy-efficient LED alternatives. The specific activities listed for this project included the installation of 240V and ELV LED lamps and luminaires, consistent with the major LED rollout Wesfarmers described in its 2016 sustainability reporting for stores like Bunnings.
Since the project was located within serviced commercial facilities, standard environmental metrics like rainfall and soil type are not applicable. Instead, the "environment" consists of conditioned retail spaces and warehouses. The project was revoked under Section 30 of the CFI Rule, which typically indicates a voluntary revocation by the proponent. This may have occurred because the proponent chose to utilize alternative state-based energy savings schemes (such as the NSW ESS or Victorian VEU) or simply decided to discontinue the specific carbon project registration. Notably, the methodology itself was later revoked in 2022 after the government determined that LED upgrades had become "business as usual" and no longer met the additionality requirements of the scheme.
