DAC-2015-06 (Revoked)
ERF101968
Project Information:
DAC-2015-06 (Revoked) was a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located in the Balonne Shire of southern Queensland, approximately 55km west of the town of Dirranbandi. Registered in September 2015, the project covered a significant area of 6,831 hectares. The project operated for nearly six years before being revoked in August 2021.
The project relied on the "Native Forest from Managed Regrowth" (NFMR) methodology. Unlike the more common Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) method, NFMR specifically targeted land that had been comprehensively cleared for pastoral use in the past. The core activity involved ceasing mechanical or chemical suppression to allow the native vegetation to regenerate into a forest, defined as achieving over 20% canopy cover and a height of at least two meters.
The region surrounding Dirranbandi is characterized by a hot semi-arid climate, typically supporting extensive grazing of sheep and cattle. The landscape within the Mulga Lands bioregion generally features red earth soils (Kandosols) on the ridges and grey cracking clays (Vertosols) on the floodplains. These fertile but moisture-limited soils are well-suited to the native Acacia species (Mulga) that likely formed the basis of the regeneration efforts.
A notable detail regarding this project is the timing of its revocation. The proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon (DAC), was acquired by the major environmental markets investor GreenCollar in July 2021. This project was revoked just one month later, in August 2021. It is common for new owners to review asset portfolios and revoke projects that may not meet their specific compliance standards or to transition the land to different management strategies.
