DAC-2015-04 (Revoked)
ERF101967
Project Information:
DAC-2015-04 (Revoked) is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located in the remote Mulga Lands of South West Queensland, approximately 110km north-east of Cunnamulla. It was registered in September 2015 and covers an area of 24,840.86 hectares.
Native Forest from Managed Regrowth projects involve allowing native trees to regenerate into a mature forest by stopping activities that suppress their growth. Standard requirements typically involve the cessation of mechanical clearing or chemical destruction, allowing the vegetation to reach a minimum of 20% crown cover and 2 metres in height.
The Cunnamulla and broader Paroo Shire region is known for its rural pastoral uses, predominantly beef cattle, goat, and sheep grazing, alongside regional opal mining. The area is classified as semi-arid with low rainfall, and the environment features a mix of open Mitchell grass flood plains in the east and Mulga lands in the west. Soils in this region generally range from cracking clays on the floodplains to sandy loams and red earths in the Mulga country.
This project was established to create permanent native forests through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources, including rootstock and lignotubers, on land that had been previously subjected to at least one comprehensive clearing for pastoral use. Notably, the project was revoked on March 7, 2018, under section 30 of the CFI Rule.
