DAC-2015-12 (Revoked)

Project Information:

DAC-2015-12 (Revoked) was a carbon abatement project located in the Balonne Shire of southern Queensland, approximately 80km northwest of the rural town of Bollon. Registered in September 2015, the project covered a significant area of 6,874 hectares in the Mulga Lands bioregion. It was originally operated by Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd until its revocation in August 2021. The project's "completed" contract status suggests that despite the revocation, it likely fulfilled its contractual delivery obligations to the Commonwealth or exited the contract under valid terms prior to the project's closure.

The project operated under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methodology. This specific method credits landholders for regenerating native forests on land that has previously been comprehensively cleared for pastoral use (unlike Human-Induced Regeneration, which focuses on suppressing clearing of non-forest vegetation). To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the project proponent would have ceased mechanical or chemical clearing activities, allowing the underlying rootstock and seed banks to regenerate into permanent native forest.

The region surrounding the project area is characterized by a semi-arid climate with relatively low rainfall, dominated by grazing properties for sheep and cattle. The landscape typically features red earth soils (Kandosols) supporting Mulga (Acacia aneura) vegetation communities, alongside areas of grey cracking clays (Vertosols) on floodplains.

A notable development for the proponent occurred in July 2021, just one month before this project was revoked, when Devine Agribusiness Carbon was acquired by GreenCollar, Australia’s largest environmental markets investor. The revocation of this project under Section 30 of the CFI Act indicates a voluntary cancellation, which often occurs when projects are consolidated, re-stratified, or transitioned to different management strategies following such corporate acquisitions.
