Project Information:

DAC-2015-21 (Revoked) was a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located approximately 12km southeast of the town of Morven in South West Queensland. Registered in September 2015 and covering just over 2,000 hectares, the project was situated in the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area predominantly utilized for the grazing of sheep and cattle on native pastures.

The project operated under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth methodology. This method is designed for land that has undergone at least one comprehensive clearing for pastoral use in the past. The core activity involves the cessation of mechanical or chemical suppression (such as chaining or poisoning), allowing native vegetation, specifically Mulga (Acacia aneura) in this region, to regenerate from in-situ seed sources and rootstock.

Environmentally, the Morven area is characterized by a semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers and cool winters. The landscape typically features red kandosols (massive red earths) and sandy loams which are naturally suited to supporting the hardy Acacia scrub targeted by this carbon project.

Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd, the proponent, was a significant operator in this sector, managing a portfolio of over 30 similar projects in the region. This specific project was revoked in August 2021 following the termination or lapsing of its Carbon Abatement Contract (CAC102399) in 2017. The revocation suggests that the project either failed to meet its abatement targets or the landholder opted to exit the scheme, potentially returning the land to full agricultural production.
