Project Information:

DAC-2015-08 is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located in the Balonne Shire, approximately 70km southwest of the town of Bollon in South West Queensland. Registered in September 2015, the project covers a significant area of 10,984 hectares. The surrounding region is part of the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area heavily utilized for grazing cattle and sheep.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) (Native Forest from Managed Regrowth) Methodology Determination 2013. This methodology involves regenerating native forest on land that has been previously cleared for pastoral use. Rather than planting new trees, the project facilitates regeneration from the soil's existing seed bank (including rootstock and lignotubers) by suppressing the activities that prevent growth, such as mechanical clearing and heavy grazing pressure.

Environmentally, the location is classified as semi-arid, with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm–500mm, which is often variable. The soils in this area are typically deep red earths (Kandosols) and sandy loams, which naturally support the Mulga (Acacia aneura) woodlands targeted for regeneration by this project.

The "DAC" in the project name refers to the original proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon, a company acquired by GreenCollar in 2021. The project was transferred to the current proponent, Pastoral Partners Australia, in late 2023. Pastoral Partners Australia is an investment fund backed by Morrison & Co that acquires grazing properties to manage them for both sustainable protein production and carbon sequestration.
