Project Information:
DAC-2015-08 is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) project located in the remote Balonne Shire of South West Queensland. The project area is situated approximately 80km southwest of the town of Bollon and 100km west of Dirranbandi. Registered in September 2015, the project covers a substantial area of 10,984 hectares.
The project operates within the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area characterized by semi-arid climatic conditions and predominantly red earth and sandy loam soils. The traditional land use in this region is extensive grazing for sheep and cattle, which is often supported by the browsing of native vegetation such as Mulga (Acacia aneura).
This project utilizes the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth methodology. Unlike Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) projects which protect existing immature forest, NFMR requires the land to have been subject to at least one comprehensive clearing for pastoral use in the past. The project activities involve ceasing mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth and managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing to allow the native forest to regenerate from in-situ seed sources, rootstock, and lignotubers.
The project name "DAC" refers to the original proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon, a Queensland-based developer acquired by GreenCollar in 2021. However, in December 2023, the project proponent was transferred to Pastoral Partners Australia (PPA). PPA is an investment platform managed by Morrison (formerly Morrison & Co) that acquires and manages pastoral assets to balance agricultural production with carbon sequestration.
