Project Information:

DAC-2015-05 (Revoked) was a native forest regeneration project located in the Balonne region of Southern Queensland, approximately 30km southeast of Dirranbandi and near the New South Wales border. Registered in September 2015 and covering a significant area of 8,205 hectares, the project operated on land historically cleared for pastoral use, specifically grazing, which is the dominant land use in this semi-arid region.

The project operated under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methodology. This method credits landholders for allowing native forests to regenerate by ceasing mechanical or chemical clearing activities that would otherwise suppress regrowth. Unlike environmental plantings, NFMR relies on in-situ seed sources like rootstock and lignotubers. The region typically experiences low to moderate rainfall and features grey cracking clay soils (vertosols) and red earths characteristic of the Balonne and Culgoa river floodplains.

The project faced significant commercial challenges. It entered a Carbon Abatement Contract (CAC290748) in November 2016 to deliver over 150,000 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). However, this contract was terminated or lapsed in May 2018 with zero units delivered. In July 2021, the proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd, was acquired by GreenCollar, a major environmental markets investor. Shortly after this acquisition, in August 2021, the project was voluntarily revoked under Section 30 of the CFI Rule, suggesting a strategic consolidation or restructuring of the asset by the new owners.
