Sandalwood Carbon Project

Project Information:
Sandalwood Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located approximately 25 kilometres southeast of Naracoorte in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. Situated within the Naracoorte Lucindale Council local government area, it was registered in October 2015 and covers an area of 87.64 hectares.
Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models projects involve changing agricultural land management practices to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil, which is then verified through rigorous baseline and subsequent soil sampling. For this project, the specific activities include altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve soil health. Additionally, nutrients are applied to the land in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material soil deficiencies.
The Naracoorte area is heavily utilised for agriculture, with regional land use dominated by sheep and cattle grazing, alongside forestry and viticulture. The Limestone Coast environment experiences a Mediterranean climate with moderate, winter-dominant rainfall. Soils in this part of South Australia typically include sandy loams and renowned "terra rossa" soils, featuring red clay loams overlying a limestone base.
The project was originally managed by Corporate Carbon Solutions Pty Ltd before the participant name officially changed to Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd in September 2025. Furthermore, the project underwent a significant method transition in October 2025, moving from the older 2014 Sequestering Carbon in Soils in Grazing Systems determination to the updated 2021 Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon method. The project area has also seen minor variation amendments and removals in 2018 and 2020 to finalise its current footprint.
