Project Information:

DAC-2015-07 is a native forest regeneration project located in the Mulga Lands bioregion of South West Queensland, approximately 75km southwest of the rural town of Bollon. Registered in September 2015, the project covers an area of 2,490 hectares within the Balonne Shire Council area. The region is primarily dedicated to grazing sheep and cattle, often on large pastoral stations that utilize the native vegetation for forage.

The project operates under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methodology. This specific method allows landholders to earn carbon credits by ceasing the mechanical or chemical suppression of native regrowth on land that was historically cleared for pastoral use. Unlike tree planting projects, NFMR relies on the "assisted regeneration" of forest from in-situ seed sources, rootstock, and lignotubers. The core activity involves a documented decision to stop clearing the land, allowing the vegetation to regenerate into a permanent native forest.

Environmentally, the site sits within a semi-arid zone typical of the Mulga Lands, experiencing variable rainfall averaging between 400mm and 500mm annually. The landscape usually features red earth soils and sandy loams, supporting vegetation communities dominated by Mulga (Acacia aneura) and Poplar Box woodlands. These soil types are often ancient and weathered, making the retention of vegetation cover critical for preventing erosion and maintaining soil health in the harsh climate.

An interesting aspect of this project is its proponent history. Originally developed by Devine Agribusiness Carbon (DAC), a specialist firm founded by local agribusiness consultants including Graham Kenny, the project's proponent is now listed as Graham Kenny Pty Ltd as trustee for the Kenny Discretionary Trust. Devine Agribusiness Carbon was acquired by GreenCollar in 2021, highlighting the consolidation within the Australian carbon market. The project holds a 100-year permanence obligation, committing the land to forest cover until 2116, and has secured a contract to deliver over 138,000 tonnes of abatement to the Australian Government.
