Project Information:
DAC-2015-07 is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) project located in the Balonne Shire of southwest Queensland, approximately 80km southwest of Bollon and 100km west of Dirranbandi. Registered in September 2015, the project covers 2,490 hectares of agricultural land. The region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with rainfall typically averaging between 300mm and 500mm annually. The landscape usually features red earth soils and sandy loams, supporting vegetation communities such as Mulga (Acacia aneura) and Poplar Box, which are extensively used for sheep and cattle grazing.
The project operates under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth methodology, which differs slightly from the more common Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) method. While both aim to regenerate native forest, this specific methodology is designed for land that has undergone at least one comprehensive clearing for pastoral use in the past. By ceasing mechanical or chemical destruction, essentially stopping the cycle of re-clearing regrowth, the project allows the forest to regenerate naturally from in-situ seed sources, rootstock, and lignotubers. The goal is to restore permanent forest cover to areas that would otherwise be kept clear for grazing.
Originally developed by Devine Agribusiness Carbon (DAC), the project is now held by Graham Kenny Pty Ltd as trustee for the Kenny Discretionary Trust. Graham Kenny was a co-founder of Devine Agribusiness Carbon, a firm acquired by GreenCollar in 2021. The project holds a Carbon Abatement Contract with the Australian Government to deliver 138,000 tonnes of abatement over 10 years, ensuring a guaranteed market for the credits generated by the regenerating forest.
