Rennylea Reforestation Project (Revoked)

The Rennylea Reforestation Project (Revoked) was an environmental planting project located in the locality of Mullengandra, approximately 35 kilometers northeast of Albury in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales. Registered in September 2015, the project covered 46.66 hectares of land historically used for agriculture. The project was voluntarily revoked in March 2018 under Section 30 of the CFI Rule, meaning the proponent chose to withdraw the project, likely due to strategic or administrative reasons common in the scheme's early transition years.

The project operated under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings, FullCAM methodology. This method requires establishing permanent plantings of native tree species, either mixed environmental species or mallee eucalypts, on land that has been clear of forest for at least five years. The goal is to sequester carbon in the biomass of the trees, with abatement calculated using the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM) rather than direct field measurements. These projects typically require fencing to exclude livestock during establishment and are designed to achieve permanent forest cover.

The surrounding region is a premier agricultural area characterized by a temperate climate with high average rainfall (approximately 680mm annually), which is winter-dominant. The soils in this area are typically acidic duplex soils (Kurosols and Chromosols) and clays, supporting robust pasture growth. The proponent, Lucinda Lee Flinders Corrigan, is a principal of Rennylea Angus, a prominent high-performance cattle stud in the Riverina. It is likely this project was integrated into the grazing property to provide shelter belts for livestock, improve biodiversity, and manage soil health alongside its carbon sequestration goals.
