Werrina Carbon Farming Project

Project Information:
Werrina Carbon Farming Project is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located in the Murweh Shire, approximately 65km south-west of Charleville in South West Queensland. It was registered in December 2014 and covers an area of 2,868.14 hectares.
Native Forest from Managed Regrowth projects involve allowing native vegetation to regenerate to natural forest cover. This is achieved by ceasing activities that previously suppressed regrowth, such as mechanical clearing, chemical destruction, or intensive livestock grazing.
The Charleville and wider Murweh Shire region is recognized for its extensive pastoral history, primarily cattle and sheep grazing across the local mulga rangelands. The area falls under a semi-arid climate classification, experiencing low and historically variable rainfall accompanied by high evaporation rates. Soils in this outback region are typically well-drained, including arid shallow soils, red earths, and sandy loams.
This project was established to restore permanent native forests through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources, including rootstock and lignotubers, on land that was subjected to at least one comprehensive clearing for pastoral use. Originally, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd was a registered participant on the project, but an August 2021 variation updated the registry to transfer full participation to the landholders, Brock and Katrina Hindmarch. Furthermore, the project was documented in a 2017 Senate Standing Committee inquiry concerning the fulfillment of Eligible Interest Holder consent requirements for area-based sequestration offset projects.
