SCOOF2027R_SimstoneP_S1 is a Plantation Forestry project located in southwestern Victoria, approximately 38km east of Dartmoor and directly north of Portland. It was registered in July 2026, and while the project area size is currently unknown, it falls within the Green Triangle region. This region is a major forestry and agricultural hub that is heavily utilized for commercial radiata pine and blue gum plantations, alongside sheep and beef cattle grazing.

Plantation forestry projects registered under the 2022 Methodology Determination sequester carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest, or by transitioning a short-rotation plantation to a long-rotation one, specifically for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Standard methodology requirements mandate that the project establishes trees at a sufficient stocking density to achieve forest cover, typically defined as achieving at least 20% canopy cover and a minimum tree height of 2 meters, and ensuring that the timber is actively managed for commercial wood production.

The surrounding environment in this part of southwestern Victoria is highly conducive to silviculture, characterized by a temperate, high-rainfall climate that supports rapid tree growth. Soils in the immediate vicinity often consist of sandy loams over a clay base, as well as highly productive volcanic basalt soils associated with the nearby newer volcanic plains of the region.

An interesting note about this project is its ties to institutional natural asset management. The proponent is 70 Hampden Road Pty Ltd, acting as trustee for the SCOOF Bronte Investment Trust. The project is managed and facilitated by SFM Agribusiness Pty Ltd, an active participant and major Australian carbon project developer. SFM Agribusiness manages large-scale institutional forestry portfolios and is well known for their "ActivAcre" program, which partners with traditional farmers to lease agricultural land for carbon tree plantations, effectively generating verified carbon credits while simultaneously providing shade and shelter for grazing livestock.
