'Rocky Springs Cattle Co Project2

Rocky Springs Cattle Co Project2 is an environmental planting project located approximately 50km west of Mundubbera in the North Burnett region of Queensland. It was registered in July 2026. While the exact project area is not disclosed, the project is situated on a cattle station owned and operated by the Schooley family.

Environmental planting projects involve establishing and maintaining a permanent, mixed-species planting of native trees and shrubs. Under standard scheme rules, these are typically planted at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare to eventually achieve forest cover. For this specific project, the selected species mix reflects the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community.

The Mundubbera and wider North Burnett region is predominantly used for beef cattle grazing, alongside some horticulture and cropping. The area experiences a sub-tropical to semi-arid rainfall climate, and the local soils generally consist of a mix of sandy loams and clay.

Interestingly, Rocky Springs Cattle Co runs a mix of Herefords and Angus cattle. The Schooley family has been proactive in the carbon farming space, recently participating in Meat & Livestock Australia's (MLA) Carbon EDGE workshops to build confidence in integrating carbon strategies on-farm. Furthermore, the property is working on an Accounting for Nature environmental account to link their carbon credits with measurable biodiversity improvements, demonstrating how native reforestation can successfully co-exist alongside a commercial beef operation.
