Project Information:
Hillridge s4_2026 is an environmental planting project located approximately 24km east of Kimba on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. It was registered in June 2026 and covers a project area of 446.51 hectares.
Environmental planting projects under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology involve establishing a permanent forest of native trees or mallee species on land that was previously cleared of forest cover for at least five years. These projects typically require planting native species at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare, with the vegetation having the potential to reach a minimum of 2 metres in height and 20% crown cover.
The surrounding Eyre Peninsula region is a major agricultural belt historically utilised for broadacre dryland cropping, primarily wheat and barley, as well as sheep grazing. The local environment is classified as a semi-arid, low rainfall zone, with the nearby township of Kimba receiving an average annual rainfall of roughly 340mm. Soils in this district generally consist of sandy loams and calcareous earth.
This project establishes permanent plantings of a mix of native tree and shrub species that are strictly local to the area of the planting. The species mix closely reflects the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community. The proponent, Cassinia Restoration Pty Ltd (part of Cassinia Environmental), is a major private land conservation company in Australia that specialises in returning degraded agricultural landscapes to native habitat to promote ecological biolinking, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.
