'Stonehaven Carbon Project 2

Stonehaven Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located approximately 25 to 30 kilometres southeast of Biloela in Central Queensland. It was registered in July 2026, and while the exact project area size is currently unknown, it operates as part of a larger cluster alongside the associated Stonehaven Carbon Project 1 and Stonehaven Carbon Project 3.

Soil carbon projects under the 2021 Measurement and Models methodology involve implementing new or materially different agricultural land management practices to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. For this project, the core activities involve altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to promote vegetation cover and improve overall soil health.

The Banana Shire region around Biloela is heavily utilised for beef cattle grazing and mixed cropping operations, often making use of buffel grass pastures and ironbark woodlands. The local environment is considered subtropical to semi-arid, experiencing summer-dominant rainfall. Soils in the region vary but typically include fertile vertosols (cracking clays), chromosols, and dermosols, which respond well to restorative grazing practices.

AgriProve, the project proponent, is a major Australian soil carbon developer that partners with farmers to transition their operations toward regenerative practices and carbon crediting. At the Stonehaven property, the landholders are actively investing in biosequestration by changing the recovery time of their paddocks and allowing them longer periods of rest. This extended rest period is prioritised over continuous grazing, allowing plants to develop stronger root systems, which increases biodiversity and builds long-term drought resilience while generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
