Pine Creek Station Reforestation Project

Project Information:

Pine Creek Station Reforestation Project is an environmental and mallee planting project located at Pine Creek Station, 40km south-west of Capella and 26km north-east of Rubyvale in Central Queensland. It was registered in May 2026. While the specific carbon project area is unknown, the station itself spans 6,233 hectares.

Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings projects involve establishing permanent, non-harvest forests through the planting of native or mallee species. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), these plantings must reach forest potential, meaning they are planted at a sufficient density to achieve a height of at least 2 metres and a crown cover of at least 20% over the project area.

The Capella and Rubyvale region is well-regarded for backgrounding and finishing cattle operations. The area experiences a moderate average annual rainfall of around 550mm to 600mm. The landscape predominantly features productive clay soils typical of brigalow scrub, with well-developed pastures of buffel grass, rising to ranges in the south.

This project establishes permanent plantings of a mix of native tree and shrub species that are local to the planting area, reflecting the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community. Interestingly, Pine Creek Station was recently sold by the Turner family after 30 years of ownership to a New South Wales agri-investment company for over $20 million. The subsequent registration of this reforestation project by Brigalow Climate Pty Ltd indicates a strategic move to integrate high-value agricultural assets with carbon farming opportunities.
