Moran Family Farm Biodiversity Planting Project
ERF208322
Project Information:
Moran Family Farm Biodiversity Planting Project is an environmental planting project located near Rockley, approximately 30km south of Bathurst in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. It was registered in May 2026 and covers 338.72ha.
Environmental planting projects involve establishing and maintaining permanent plantings of a mix of native tree and shrub species that reflect the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community. To achieve forest cover, these projects typically require planting at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare.
The Bathurst and Central Tablelands area is well-known for broadacre cropping, mixed farming, and sheep and cattle grazing. The region generally experiences a temperate climate with moderate, reliable rainfall. The soils across the landscape are highly diverse but are predominantly characterised by red and yellow duplex soils (Chromosols) as well as some fertile basalt-derived soils.
This project takes place on a 1000-acre property owned by celebrated Australian chef and restaurateur Matt Moran. The Moran Family Farm produces ethically raised, grass-fed beef, lamb, and pork for his restaurants (including Aria, Chiswick, and the nearby Rockley Pub) in a true paddock-to-plate philosophy. The carbon planting project aligns with the farm's broader mission to champion sustainable and regenerative agriculture, implementing natural sequence farming to restore the landscape and enhance local biodiversity.
