Maitland Foods Carbon Project 4

Project Information:

Maitland Foods Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon project located approximately 15km northwest of Clare in the Mid North region of South Australia. It was registered on March 30, 2026, and covers an area of 604.79ha.

Projects under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models method allow landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by undertaking new land management activities to increase carbon stored in the soil. Standard requirements include establishing a carbon baseline through rigorous soil sampling, introducing an eligible new activity, and using ongoing measurement or modelling to verify the carbon sequestered.

The Mid North region around Clare is heavily agricultural, predominantly known for broadacre cropping, sheep grazing, and viticulture. The local environment typically experiences a Mediterranean climate with moderate, winter-dominant rainfall, and the soils generally consist of red-brown earths, clay loams, and sandy loams over clay.

This specific project increases soil carbon in the agricultural system by applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address a material deficiency. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, is a major Australian soil carbon developer and is managing other similar initiatives in the same portfolio, such as the Maitland Foods Carbon Project 1.
