Maitland Foods Carbon Project 4

Project Information:

Maitland Foods Carbon Project 4 is a soil organic carbon sequestration project located approximately 15km northwest of Clare in the Mid North region of South Australia. It was registered in March 2026 and covers 604.79 hectares.

Soil organic carbon sequestration projects using measurement and models involve modifying agricultural land management practices to build and store carbon in the soil over time. Under this methodology, proponents must undertake specific eligible activities and measure the baseline soil carbon to verify future sequestration. For this project, the primary activity is applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address a material deficiency, which stimulates plant and root growth to draw carbon into the soil structure.

The Mid North area around Clare is well known for mixed farming enterprises, typically including sheep grazing alongside the dryland cropping of wheat, canola, and oaten hay. The region generally experiences moderate, winter-dominant rainfall averaging around 540mm annually, while the soils are largely comprised of red sodosols and black vertosols (cracking clays).

This project is part of a broader sequence of Maitland Foods carbon projects (numbered 1 through 4) managed by Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd. These projects operate collectively in the region to address material soil deficiencies and sequester carbon across larger continuous agricultural areas.
