Project Information:

FPC 2026 CP2 is a plantation forestry project located near Bridgetown and Yornup, roughly 250km south of Perth in Western Australia. It was registered in February 2026 and covers 449.75ha.

Plantation forestry projects operating under the 2022 methodology involve activities such as establishing new plantations, transitioning to permanent forests, or converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation forests. This specific project sequesters carbon by converting an existing short-rotation plantation forest, typically grown for pulpwood, into a long-rotation plantation forest designated for the commercial harvesting of structural wood products.

The Bridgetown and Yornup area is known for agriculture, grazing, and extensive commercial forestry operations. The area is characterised by a Mediterranean climate with high winter rainfall, and the soils are generally lateritic, consisting of gravelly loams and clay loams that are highly suitable for timber plantations.

The project is managed by the Forest Products Commission, a Western Australian Government trading enterprise responsible for the sustainable management of the state's commercial timber resources. By extending the growth cycle of the trees before harvesting, the project allows significantly more carbon to be captured and stored in both the living forest and the resulting long-term structural timber products.
