Sixth Gen Carbon Project

Project Information:

Sixth Gen Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 35km northeast of Warren and 80km northwest of Dubbo in New South Wales [1]. It was registered on February 16, 2026, and covers an area of 2,080.87 hectares [1].

Soil carbon projects operating under the "Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models" methodology involve testing baseline soil carbon levels and implementing new or materially different eligible agricultural management activities to increase soil organic carbon [1].

The Orana region around Warren and Dubbo is characterized by a semi-arid climate with variable, moderate rainfall. The regional land use is heavily dominated by mixed agriculture, primarily sheep and cattle grazing, alongside cropping for wheat and cotton. The local soils generally consist of red-brown earths and cracking clays (vertosols) typical of the central western plains.

This project was established by the developer Loam Carbon Pty Ltd to increase carbon in the soil within the existing agricultural system [1]. This is achieved by applying nutrients to the land in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address a material soil deficiency, thereby promoting greater plant biomass, improving soil health, and enabling deeper carbon retention in the soil profile [1].
