Project Information:

Cooplacurripa Environmental Planting Project (Phase 2) is a large-scale reforestation initiative located at Cooplacurripa Station, approximately 45km north of Gloucester and 40km southeast of Nowendoc in the Mid North Coast hinterland of New South Wales. Registered in November 2025, this phase covers 1,661.75 hectares of the historic pastoral property. The wider Cooplacurripa Station is renowned as one of the largest cattle stations on the eastern seaboard, traditionally used for grazing Herefords in a region characterised by steep valleys and high rainfall.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) 2024 methodology. This involves establishing permanent plantings of native tree and shrub species, such as local eucalypts and rainforest species, on land that was previously cleared for grazing. To meet the methodology's definition of forest cover, the planting must typically achieve a density of at least 200 stems per hectare for block plantings. The specific aim is to restore the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community, which includes Eucalypt tall open forests and vine thickets.

Environmentally, the region sits in a high rainfall belt on the eastern fall of the Great Dividing Range, supporting lush vegetation and productive soils often derived from trap rock or basalt. A significant aspect of this project is its dual focus; Cooplacurripa Station is notable for hosting the first registered project under Australia's Nature Repair Market (NRM). This allows the proponent, Silva Capital, to potentially "stack" carbon credits with biodiversity certificates, measuring improvements in native biodiversity alongside carbon sequestration. The project also heavily involves the local Biripi people in land management and cultural heritage protection.
