Project Information:
ACP CBA 2025_1 is a plantation forestry project located across two distinct areas in Tasmania, with one parcel situated approximately 30km southeast of Devonport in the north, and another roughly 45km north of Hobart in the Southern Midlands. It was registered in July 2025 and currently covers 539.24ha, following a project area variation on December 3, 2025, which added more land to the overall project.
Plantation forestry projects involve establishing new plantation forests, or maintaining existing plantations that would otherwise be converted to non-forested land, to sequester carbon while managing commercial wood products. Standard requirements dictate that the plantation must be managed to meet specific stocking densities, tree health, and growth conditions to ensure successful commercial harvesting and long-term carbon sequestration.
These Tasmanian regions are well known for extensive forestry operations, alongside grazing and cropping. The northern site near Devonport is considered a high rainfall zone featuring rich, fertile basalt soils (ferrosols) ideal for agriculture and timber, while the southern site experiences moderate rainfall with a mix of podzolic and dermosol soils traditionally suited for sheep grazing and forestry.
This project sequesters carbon by preventing the conversion of an existing or recently harvested plantation into non-forested land, instead establishing and maintaining a new plantation for the commercial harvest of wood products. Interestingly, the project's proponent, Australian Carbon Products Pty Ltd, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Midway Limited. Midway is one of Australia's largest woodfibre processors and exporters, and has recently built significant operational capacity within the plantation carbon management and ACCU scheme space.
