Project Information:
ACP CBA 2025_1 is a plantation forestry project spanning multiple sites across Tasmania, with locations approximately 25km east of Devonport in the state's north, and 60-70km north of Hobart in the Central Highlands and Southern Midlands. It was registered in July 2025 and currently covers 918.91 hectares, following two area variations that added more land to the project on December 3, 2025, and April 28, 2026.
Plantation forestry projects under the 2022 methodology allow for carbon sequestration by establishing a new plantation forest, converting a short-rotation plantation to a long-rotation one, or avoiding the conversion of a plantation to non-forested land. Standard requirements include planting and maintaining species at specific stocking densities and ensuring the plantation is eventually used for the commercial harvesting of wood products.
Tasmania's northern regions and central midlands are highly regarded for grazing, cropping, and substantial commercial forestry operations. The northern sites near Devonport experience high rainfall and feature highly fertile basalt (ferrosol) soils, while the central and southern locations generally receive moderate rainfall with a varied mix of podzolic and clay loam soils.
This project generates carbon credits by avoiding the conversion of an existing or harvested plantation to non-forested land, instead choosing to establish and maintain a new commercial plantation. The project's proponent, Australian Carbon Products Pty Ltd, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Midway Limited (ASX: MWY), which is one of Australia’s largest woodfibre processors and exporters. This project forms a key part of Midway's growing carbon management strategy, allowing the company to facilitate carbon abatement and generate offsets while continuing to support the commercial timber industry.
