Project Information:

ACP CBA 2025_1 is a Plantation Forestry project located across two distinct agricultural regions in Tasmania. The project spans approximately 539 hectares and includes sites in the Derwent Valley, roughly 60km northwest of Hobart near the town of Ouse, and on the North Coast near Port Sorell, approximately 20km east of Devonport. Registered in July 2025, the project recently underwent a variation in December 2025 to expand its project area.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022, specifically utilizing the "Avoided Conversion" activity. This activity involves maintaining a plantation forest on land that was planned to be converted to non-forested use (such as pasture or cropping) following a harvest. By committing to re-establish and maintain the plantation for commercial harvest, the project generates credits for the carbon stored in the trees that would otherwise have been cleared.

The locations are situated in prime forestry and agricultural zones. The Derwent Valley site is characterized by a cool temperate climate with moderate rainfall and soils typically derived from dolerite and clay, supporting a mix of grazing and forestry. The North Coast site near Port Sorell benefits from reliable, higher rainfall and often fertile soils (such as Ferrosols or sandy loams), which are conducive to high-yield agriculture and timber production.

The project proponent, Australian Carbon Products Pty Ltd, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Midway Limited, a major Australian forestry and woodfibre export company. Government grant records indicate that this proponent has been funded to establish Softwood (Pinus radiata) plantations in Tasmania, suggesting this project likely consists of softwood timber assets managed for long-term carbon and commercial value.
