ACP CBA 2025_1

ACP CBA 2025_1 is a Plantation Forestry project located across multiple land parcels in Tasmania. Based on the project coordinates, the sites span from areas approximately 30km southeast of Devonport in the state's north, down to the Bothwell and Oatlands districts roughly 60-80km north of Hobart. Registered in July 2025, the project initially covered 918.91 hectares, with further land areas added through variations in December 2025 and April 2026.

Plantation forestry carbon projects under the 2022 method involve activities such as establishing new plantations, converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation timber, or maintaining existing plantations. Standard requirements include actively managing the trees for the commercial harvesting of wood products rather than clearing the land for agriculture. This specific project sequesters carbon by avoiding the conversion of an existing or harvested plantation to non-forested land, instead ensuring the continuous maintenance of a new commercial plantation forest.

The project regions in Tasmania are well-known for commercial forestry, sheep and cattle grazing, and mixed cropping operations. Depending on the specific parcel, the environment ranges from high-rainfall agricultural zones in the north to the more moderate rainfall classifications of the Central Midlands. Soils across these regions typically include fertile volcanic basalts (ferrosols) in the north and clay-rich podzolic or dermosol soils in the midlands, which provide excellent conditions for commercial timber growth.

Interestingly, the project proponent, Australian Carbon Products Pty Ltd, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Midway Limited, one of Australia's largest wood fibre processors and exporters. This project highlights a corporate push to integrate carbon farming with traditional forestry, ensuring that long-lived wood products continue to act as carbon sinks while generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) alongside timber yields.
