Piney Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Piney Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 12km northeast of the small locality of Wannamal and 15km south of the monastic town of New Norcia. Registered in August 2025, the project covers 446.5 hectares of agricultural land within the Shire of Chittering. The region is situated roughly 110km north of Perth and is characterized by broadacre farming, primarily grazing and cropping operations, set amongst remnant native vegetation and rolling terrain.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method credits landholders for increases in soil organic carbon stocks resulting from changes in land management. Unlike environmental plantings which rely on trees, soil carbon projects focus on building carbon below ground through improved farming practices. A key requirement is the measurement of baseline carbon levels followed by subsequent sampling rounds or modelling to quantify the sequestration over time.
Ecologically, the area experiences a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Rainfall in this part of the Northern Agricultural Region is moderate, typically averaging between 500mm and 600mm annually, which supports productive pasture growth during the winter growing season. The local soils are generally comprised of sandy loams, gravelly duplex soils, and lateritic earths, which can be prone to nutrient deficiencies. To address this, the project activities specifically involve the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to correct material deficiencies, aiming to boost plant productivity and, consequently, soil carbon levels.
The project is developed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent soil carbon developer known for utilizing satellite data and remote sensing to monitor soil health indicators before deploying physical sampling teams. This "tech-led" approach allows for more targeted management decisions. The existence of a "Piney Carbon Project 2" suggests it may be an expansion of an earlier stage or a neighboring aggregation on the same property, capitalizing on the established infrastructure and baselines of the initial project.
