New Horizon Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
New Horizon Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located approximately 42km west of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales. It was registered on 5 February 2026 and covers 1,319.61 hectares.
Soil carbon projects operating under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology involve implementing new or materially different agricultural management practices to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. Standard requirements include establishing baseline soil carbon levels and conducting subsequent measurements or modelling to demonstrate continuous carbon sequestration over time.
The Wagga Wagga and broader Riverina area is a highly productive agricultural zone known for mixed farming, particularly dryland cropping and pastures for sheep and cattle grazing. The region is considered a moderate rainfall area, receiving an average of 526mm annually, and soils are generally red and brown podzolics, moderately reactive clays, and calcarosols.
This project increases carbon in the soil within the agricultural system by re-establishing or rejuvenating a pasture by seeding or pasture cropping. It also involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health. Interestingly, the proponent, Glenory Nominees Pty Ltd as Trustee for the C J Burkinshaw Family Trust, operates multiple carbon projects in the area. Supported by Select Carbon Pty Ltd, they also run the nearby Wirragoona Soil Carbon Project and the Wirranda Soil Carbon Project.
