Project Information:

FPC 2025 CP3 is a plantation forestry project located across multiple sites in the South West region of Western Australia, with parcels situated near Bridgetown, Manjimup, and Donnybrook. Registered in August 2025, the project spans approximately 1,005 hectares. The nearest major regional hub is Manjimup, roughly 290km south of Perth, an area deeply integrated with the state's timber and horticultural industries.

The project operates under the 2022 Plantation Forestry method, which credits carbon sequestered in commercially harvested wood products. The specific activities involve establishing new plantations and converting short-rotation crops (typically woodchip) to long-rotation forests (typically sawlog). By extending the rotation period or establishing new forests on cleared land, the project increases the average carbon stock on the land and stores carbon in long-lived wood products like housing timber. Standard requirements for this method include strict adherence to regional forestry hubs to ensure economic viability and water licensing compliance.

The South West region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with high winter rainfall, often exceeding 900mm annually in the Manjimup-Pemberton belt, though the region has seen drying trends in recent decades. The soils in these specific coordinates are typically fertile loams and lateritic gravels (Forested Hills terrain), which are ideal for high-yield Pinus radiata (softwood) or Eucalyptus globulus (blue gum) growth.

The proponent, the Forest Products Commission (FPC), is the Western Australian government's trading enterprise responsible for managing state timber resources. This project appears to be part of the FPC's strategic Softwood Plantation Investment Program, which aims to expand the state's softwood estate to support the construction industry while generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to meet climate goals.
