Rancho Carbon Project

Project Information:
Rancho Carbon Project is a plantation forestry project located at Condingup, approximately 70km east of Esperance in Western Australia. It was registered in July 2025 and covers 2,066.20 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects under this specific methodology involve transitioning an existing plantation forest into a permanent planting. Standard requirements dictate that the plantation must be at imminent risk of being converted to non-forested land or harvested without replanting, allowing the project to sequester carbon continuously by maintaining a permanent forest canopy.
The Esperance and Condingup region is traditionally known for extensive agriculture, including cereal cropping, livestock grazing, and forestry operations. The area features a temperate Mediterranean climate with medium to high rainfall, while its soil profile is largely dominated by deep sands and sandy duplex soils.
An interesting aspect of this project is its connection to the local Indigenous community. In May 2025, the Tijuk Trust entered into a contract to purchase the underlying property, "Rancho X", which sits within the culturally significant Greater Cheetup landscape. The $12.95 million land acquisition was innovatively financed by pre-selling the property's future Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to Rancho Carbon Pty Ltd.
