Project Information:

Limestone2025R_Ellery_S3 is a Plantation Forestry project located near Mumbannar, approximately 15km west of Dartmoor in southwestern Victoria. Registered on July 10, 2025, the project covers a substantial area of 528.29 hectares within the renowned "Green Triangle" forestry region. The site sits just east of the South Australian border, roughly 40km from the major regional hub of Mount Gambier.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it utilizes "Schedule 3" (Avoided Conversion), which credits the carbon sequestered by continuing plantation forestry activities on land that would otherwise be converted to non-forested uses, such as grazing or cropping. This suggests that without the carbon revenue, the land was assessed as being at risk of reversion to agriculture, a common trend in the region where high land prices often drive land-use changes.

Environmentally, the Mumbannar and Dartmoor region is characterized by high, reliable rainfall (typically 600-800mm annually) and sandy loam soils over a limestone base. These free-draining, fertile soils are ideal for Pinus radiata (softwood) production, which is the dominant land use alongside cattle and sheep grazing.

A notable aspect of this project is the change in participation recorded in late 2025. The project proponent shifted from "The Trust Company (PTAL) Limited as trustee for ANZFOF2 Sub 1" to OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd. This indicates a consolidation of assets, where OneFortyOne, a major player in the Green Triangle owning the Jubilee Sawmill, acquired these specific plantation assets from the Australia New Zealand Forest Fund 2 (ANZFOF2). The "S3" in the project name explicitly denotes its operation under Schedule 3 of the methodology.
