Project Information:
Limestone2025R_Ellery_S3 is a plantation forestry project located near Branxholme, roughly 30km southwest of the major regional town of Hamilton in South West Victoria. It was registered in July 2025 and covers an area of 528.29ha.
Plantation forestry projects generate carbon credits by establishing and maintaining forests for commercial wood products. To be eligible, they generally must achieve a stocking density that results in at least 20% crown cover. Specifically, this project involves an "avoided conversion" activity, meaning that instead of clearing harvested timber land for non-forested agricultural use, the proponent has committed to maintaining the land as a commercial plantation forest to sequester carbon in both the growing trees and future wood products.
The South West Victoria region, situated within the famed Green Triangle, is known for intensive sheep and cattle grazing, dairying, and significant commercial forestry operations. The area is considered a high-rainfall zone (typically receiving over 700mm annually) and soils are generally fertile basalt loams and heavy clays derived from the Newer Volcanics province.
An interesting note is that the project transitioned its primary participant structure in December 2025. The proponent was formally varied from The Trust Company (PTAL) Limited as trustee for ANZFOF2 Sub 1 to ONEFORTYONE PLANTATIONS PTY LTD, reflecting OneFortyOne's broader consolidation of Limestone Coast and Green Triangle forestry assets during that year. The project is also operated with the assistance of specialist forestry managers SFM Environmental Solutions Pty Ltd.
