7 Gen Plantation Carbon 2025

Project Information:
7 Gen Plantation Carbon 2025 is a plantation forestry project located near The Channon, approximately 20 kilometers north of Lismore in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Registered on July 7, 2025, the project covers a total area of 35.11 hectares. The site falls within the Lismore City Council local government area, a region characterized by a mix of subtropical rainforest remnants, macadamia farming, cattle grazing, and forestry operations.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it involves the establishment of a new plantation forest on land that has not supported a plantation or native forest for at least seven years (Schedule 1). Unlike environmental plantings which are permanent and not harvested, this methodology allows for commercial harvesting of wood products while crediting the long-term average carbon stocks sequestered by the trees over the project life.
The Northern Rivers region is defined by its high rainfall and subtropical climate, providing ideal conditions for rapid timber growth. The soils in this specific locality are typically fertile, volcanic red basalt (krasnozem) or alluvial clays derived from the ancient Mount Warning shield volcano. These environmental factors suggest the plantation will likely utilize high-growth commercial timber species suitable for the wet conditions.
The proponent, Seven Generations Forestry Pty Ltd, is an Australian private company based in the Lismore region (postcode 2480). The project design focuses on sequestering carbon through the growth of timber which will eventually be harvested, creating a cycle of carbon storage in wood products and re-planting.
