Project Information:

7 Gen Plantation Carbon 2025 is a Plantation Forestry project located in the Lismore local government area within the Northern Rivers region of northern New South Wales. The project was registered in July 2025 and covers an area of 35.11 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects operating under the 2022 methodology involve sequestering carbon by establishing and maintaining new plantation forests specifically for the commercial harvesting of wood products. A standard eligibility requirement for establishing a new plantation under this methodology is that the land must not have had any native forest cleared from it in the seven years prior to the project's commencement, ensuring the protection of existing native biodiversity.

The broader Lismore and Northern Rivers region is historically known for a mix of forestry and diverse agricultural operations, including dairy farming, beef cattle, and horticulture. The region is classified as a high-rainfall environment with a sub-tropical climate, and is famously susceptible to extreme weather and severe flood events. These exceptionally wet conditions are supported by highly fertile soil types, predominantly featuring red ferrosols with high clay content, alongside dermosols, vertosols, and acid sodic soils, which collectively provide excellent conditions for rapid tree growth.

Interestingly, the project's proponent, SEVEN GENERATIONS FORESTRY PTY LTD, was awarded a $49,800 grant through Round 3 of the Australian Government's Support Plantation Establishment program. This funding was specifically allocated to assist the company in establishing 24.9 hectares of hardwood plantation in NSW. This aligns perfectly with the project's registered activities, supporting the expansion of Australia's domestic timber resources while contributing to national carbon emission reduction targets.
