Maylea Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Maylea Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near the rural locality of Bower, approximately 25km west of Morgan and 130km northeast of Adelaide in South Australia. Registered in September 2025, the project covers a land area of roughly 699 hectares within the Mid Murray Council region. This area is traditionally utilized for mixed broadacre farming, predominantly grazing and marginal cropping, characteristic of the northern Murray Mallee zone.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil carbon stocks through changes in land management. Standard requirements involve establishing a baseline of soil carbon through physical sampling and then implementing new activities, such as the pasture rejuvenation and use of legume species cited in this project, to sequester additional carbon. Subsequent credits (ACCUs) are issued based on modeled increases verified by periodic measurements.
Environmentally, the Bower and Mount Mary region is classified as semi-arid, typically receiving low annual rainfall in the range of 250mm to 350mm. The soil landscape is dominated by calcareous earths, sandy loams, and rubbly profiles typical of the South Australian Mallee. These soils are often inherently low in fertility and susceptible to wind erosion, making the project's focus on maintaining soil vegetation cover and improving soil health particularly relevant for the local ecosystem. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, is a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector, known for partnering with landholders to implement these specific high-tech soil measurement and modeling protocols.
