Cooeeanna Carbon Project 8

ERF203820

Project Information:

Cooeeanna Carbon Project 8 is a soil carbon sequestration project located at the Cooeeanna homestead, approximately 9km southwest of the town of Lock on the central Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Registered in September 2025, the project covers 198 hectares of agricultural land within the District Council of Elliston.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which awards carbon credits for measurable increases in soil organic carbon stocks. To achieve this, the project activities involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By optimizing soil nutrition, the project aims to enhance plant growth and root biomass, thereby increasing the amount of carbon stored in the soil profile over time.

The Lock region is a prominent grain-growing and grazing area characterized by a semi-arid climate with an annual rainfall of approximately 400mm. The local landscape is dominated by calcareous sandy loams and red-brown earths, which are typical of the Eyre Peninsula's agricultural zone. The "Project 8" designation suggests this registration is part of a larger aggregation or segmented project structure on the Cooeeanna property, managed by the proponent Agriprove to optimize baselining and credit issuance across different land parcels.
