Cooeeanna Carbon Project 3
ERF203816
Project Information:
Cooeeanna Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, approximately 10km southwest of the town of Lock. Registered in September 2025, the project covers a project area of roughly 158 hectares. The property "Cooeeanna" operates within a region heavily focused on agriculture, specifically serving as a hub for cereal cropping (wheat, barley) and sheep grazing.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved land management practices. In this specific instance, the project activities focus on addressing material soil deficiencies by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers. By optimizing nutrient levels, the project aims to boost plant growth and biomass, which in turn draws more carbon from the atmosphere and stores it in the soil.
The environment in this part of the central Eyre Peninsula is classified as semi-arid, typically receiving between 350mm and 400mm of rainfall annually. The landscape is characterized by gently undulating plains with soils that are often sandy, calcareous, or composed of ironstone gravels, types that can be nutrient-poor and prone to wind erosion if not carefully managed. The project is developed by Agriprove, a prominent service provider in the Australian carbon market known for partnering with farmers to implement soil carbon projects.
