Cooeeanna Carbon Project 2
ERF203815
Project Information:
Cooeeanna Carbon Project 2 is a soil organic carbon project located at the Cooeeanna homestead, approximately 9km southwest of the town of Lock on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Registered in September 2025, the project covers an area of roughly 196 hectares. The wider Lock region is a key agricultural hub known for cereal cropping and sheep grazing. The environment is generally semi-arid, often featuring calcareous sands and red duplex soils typical of the central Eyre Peninsula.
This project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology (2021). This method rewards landholders for increasing carbon stocks in their soil by adopting new or materially different management activities. In this specific case, the project focuses on applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material nutrient deficiencies. By correcting these imbalances, the project aims to stimulate greater plant growth and biomass production, which in turn increases the organic carbon sequestered in the soil.
The project is managed by AgriProve, a prominent service provider in the Australian soil carbon market. Under the 2021 methodology, the project will likely utilize a hybrid approach of physical soil sampling and modelling to measure and verify the increases in soil carbon over time.
