Project Information:
Limestone2025R_Black_S3 is a Plantation Forestry project located in South West Victoria, approximately 45km southwest of Hamilton and 70km east of the South Australian border. Registered in May 2025, the project covers roughly 269 hectares in a region renowned for its prolific timber industry, commonly referred to as the Green Triangle. The surrounding landscape is a patchwork of softwood and hardwood plantations interspersed with livestock grazing properties, benefiting from the area's reliable high rainfall and fertile sandy loam or clay soils.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022, specifically utilising Schedule 3 activities. This classification, known as "avoided conversion," applies to existing plantation forests that are at risk of being cleared and converted to non-forested land uses, such as agriculture, due to economic factors. By registering this project, the proponent commits to maintaining the plantation forest for a defined permanence period, thereby sequestering carbon in the timber and avoiding the emissions associated with clearing and land-use change.
A key development for this project was the transition in ownership documented in late 2025. The project is now held by OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd, following their major acquisition of the Limestone Coast estate from New Forests' Australia New Zealand Forestry Fund 2 (ANZFOF2). This acquisition, one of the largest of its kind in a decade, secured over 20,000 hectares of freehold land and plantation resources for OneFortyOne. SFM Environmental Solutions remains involved as a participant, likely providing specialised forest and carbon management services to the new owners.
