Limestone2025R_Black_S3 is a Plantation Forestry project located in the Green Triangle region of south-western Victoria, situated within the Southern Grampians Shire roughly midway between Mount Gambier and Hamilton. It was registered in May 2025 and covers an area of 269.25 hectares.

Plantation Forestry projects operating under the "avoided conversion" activity generate carbon credits by preventing an existing or recently harvested plantation forest from being permanently cleared for agricultural use. To meet standard methodology requirements, the proponent must commit to re-establishing and maintaining the forest at commercial stocking densities, which sequesters carbon both in the growing trees and the future harvested wood products.

The Green Triangle region is widely recognized as one of Australia's premier commercial forestry districts. The surrounding rural land use is predominantly a mix of softwood and hardwood timber plantations alongside beef cattle and sheep grazing operations. The regional environment features a temperate, high-rainfall climate that is highly conducive to rapid tree growth, while the local soils typically consist of sandy loams over limestone, fertile terra rossa, and basalt-derived clays.

An interesting aspect of this project is its reflection of broader forestry portfolio movements within the region. In September 2025, the project participant was formally varied, transferring the project from "The Trust Company (PTAL) Limited as trustee for ANZFOF2 Sub 1", an entity associated with New Forests, to the major regional timber operator OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd. Co-managed with specialized forestry firm SFM Environmental Solutions, the project highlights a strong corporate commitment to keeping the Green Triangle's prime timber assets under sustainable plantation management rather than converting the land to agricultural pasture.
