Project Information:
Limestone2025R_Black_S3 is a plantation forestry project located in the Green Triangle region of south-western Victoria, approximately 30km southwest of Hamilton. It was registered in May 2025 and covers 269.25 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects under the 2022 methodology involve activities such as establishing new commercial plantations, converting short-rotation to long-rotation plantations, or avoiding the conversion of existing plantations to non-forested land. Standard requirements include maintaining the plantation forest for the commercial harvesting of wood products at specific stocking densities, while legally ensuring the land does not revert to pasture or alternative agriculture.
The Green Triangle area of south-western Victoria is heavily utilized for commercial timber operations and livestock grazing. The region experiences a temperate climate with high, reliable rainfall, and soils are generally sandy loams and clay overlaying a limestone base, which is ideal for forestry production.
This project sequesters carbon by avoiding the conversion of an existing or recently harvested plantation forest to non-forested land by continuing the plantation. Interestingly, in September 2025, the project's participant name was updated to OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd. This followed OneFortyOne's landmark 2025 acquisition of the 20,500-hectare Limestone Coast plantation estate from New Forests. SFM Environmental Solutions acts as the project agent and has been retained by OneFortyOne to continue managing the estate's hardwood operations and carbon opportunities.
