Bunny Rock Carbon Project 1

ERF202791

Project Information:

Bunny Rock Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 25 kilometers north of the town of Mukinbudin. The project appears to be situated near the locality of Bonnie Rock, a known agricultural area and rail siding. Registered in May 2025, the project covers a project area of roughly 507 hectares.

The region is characterized by broadacre dryland agriculture, primarily focusing on cereal cropping (wheat, barley) and sheep grazing. The climate is semi-arid to Mediterranean, featuring hot, dry summers and cool winters with low annual rainfall. The soils in the Mukinbudin and Bonnie Rock area are typically described as sandy loams, sandplains (wodjil), and areas of granite outcrops, which can often be acidic or low in nutrients, conditions that this project aims to address.

This project operates under the 2021 Soil Organic Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models). This method credits landholders for increases in soil carbon stocks resulting from a change in management activities. Specifically, this project involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to correct material soil deficiencies. By optimizing nutrient levels, the project aims to boost plant growth and root biomass, which in turn sequesters more carbon into the soil profile. As an AgriProve project, it likely utilizes a hybrid approach of direct soil core sampling and modelled estimates to verify carbon gains over the 25-year crediting period.
